SCSN is once again holding its Annual residential and AGM in the beautiful surroundings of Hothorpe Hall, Leicestershire. SCSN Hosts the 2016 AMHP leads conference
SCSN worked with Steve Chamberlain and Emad Lilo from the AMHP leads network to host their annual conference. Presenters included Ruth Allen, BASW CEO and SCSN Chair, Kevin Stone who presented his research on AMHP decision making, the CQC and an inspiring presentation from Dr Colin King giving a challenging service user perspective. Emad Lilo was delighted with the event which attraacted 3 times the usual number of delegates and the plan is to work together with SCSN to plan next years event.
"Co-Produced Innovation in Mental Health"
SCSN co-produced its 2016 annual conference with that National Survivor User Network (NSUN) this year. The conference was a huge success. Atttended by close to 200 people it showcased a range of national projects that are bringing co-production to life. At its AGM this year SCSN will discuss how to recreate itself as a fully co-produced organisation.
"Towards a Human Rights and Empowerment Based Approach in Mental Health Social Care"
On March 31 2016 SCSN hosted a seminar jointly with the British Insitute of Human Rights (BIHR) and Bristol University. The seminar featured Sanchita Hosali, Assitant Director of BIHR talking about the "Human Rights into the Frontline" project, Hari Sewel (SCSN committee member) speaking about "Ethnicity, Race and Culture in Mental Health" and Ruth Allen, SCSN chair presented a paper entitled, "The Care Act 2014, "Does the Care Act 2014 improve access to rights?". In addition Emad Lilo talked about Mentla Health Integration and a Bristol based service user led group outlied their project - "Joining the Dots-Making Co-Production a Reality".
SCSN Chair Ruth Allen become BASW CEO
The network would like to congratulate Ruth Allen on her appointment as Cheif Executive of BASW. We are sure she will be an excellent ambassador for Mental Health Social Work and Social Care in her new role. Good luck Ruth.

Dr Ruth Allen re-elected as Chair of Network at 2015 AGM
Following the Social Care Strategic Network 2015 AGM, Dr Ruth Allen, Director of Social Work for South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust was re-elected as SCSN Chair. Ruth is a longstanding member of the Network (and its action learning set precursor) and a previous committee member.
Following her election Ruth said: “As Chair, I am very much looking forward to working with all members, associates and friends in 2016 to ensure the SCSN grows and develops its voice in the social care and mental health sectors nationally. Most importantly, SCSN needs the ideas of its members – so if you have any thoughts about how to develop the network, please e-mail the network administrator Sophie at firstname.lastname@example.org
